LATEST exploration results are believed to have boosted Beaconsfield Gold's ambitions to become a copper producer in western Victoria.
The Melbourne-based group has already announced a maiden resource estimate for the Thursdays Gossan prospect at the Stavely project, near Glenthompson. It was 51,700 tonnes of contained copper (12.4million tonnes grading 0.42% copper). That does not fly by itself but the market is now waiting on what is rumoured to be some impressive exploration results at the nearby Junction prospect.Junction is about three kilometres south-east of Thursdays Gossan. When taken with the gold prospect known as Fair View, Beaconsfield will have lined up three interesting prospects/deposits along a 10-kilometre north-west structural trend.Any development would benefit from access to existing infrastructure (grid power, sealed roads, rail lines and port facilities at Portland) as well as the ability to draw a workforce from local farming communities.Beaconsfield's shares closed 0.5 a share lower yesterday at 13.The company is known for taking over management and full ownership of the Beaconsfield goldmine in Tasmania after the Anzac Day 2006 rock fall that killed Larry Knight and trapped his workmates Todd Russell and Brant Webb for a fortnight. The mine has since been returned to safe and profitable operation.
